In Turf Battles, equipment divides into seven kinds:
1. Common items: When equipment has only the basic attack and defense capability, the equipment name is in white. When used, the equipment loses its durability, and will need to be repaired at a Vendor NPC. (Jewelry does not lose durability)
2. Magic equipment: When equipment has 1~2 options added, the equipment name assumes the color green. When used, the equipment loses its durability, and will need to be repaired at a Vendor NPC. (Jewelry does not lose durability)
3. Divine equipment: When equipment has 3~4 options added, the equipment name assumes the color yellow. They never lose durability. (Jewelry does not lose durability)
4. Special upgradeable equipment, like the Well-Known Shansha Garment, will continue to lose durability and can not be repaired. But if they have a third option added to them (if the item is made divine) they will not lose durability.
5. +11 equipment (Ultima, Fabula, Triumphus, Acura, Mystic) Have only one option. They never lose durability.
6. Items from Melvil Tower can have four options added, but they will continually lose durability and can not be repaired.
7. Eonic Weapons can have four options but continue to lose durability. They can be repaired.

Armor, Weapons, Jewelry in Turf Battles can be upgraded. Basic items (all items not including blessing items) can have options added to them by dragging and dropping Sorcery gems or Magic gems on the item in your inventory. Magic gems can sometimes add 2 options at once. Using Sorcery or Magic gems can only add two total options to an item. After these two options, drag and drop Divine gems onto items to add two more additional options to items. Increase the option level by using Sephiroth Gems or Sephiroth Choice Gems
Jewelry: The higher requirement level of Vitality, the higher you can upgrade (usually). Also, at the first level of any type of jewelry, you can not add str, dex, and vig options.
Armor: The higher requirement level, the higher you can upgrade (usually). Also, on basic armor you can not add any options. After this the separate pieces have different options per class. Each piece of armor is guaranteed to have defense against magic and defense.
Weapon: Higher the requirements of the weapon, the higher you can upgrade it's options. On the basic weapon you can not add options. Each Weapon get benefits usually specific of its class. mage weapons will often get MSA or MA while melee weapons get PSA or PA along with other options.
*Note: Quivers can not have options added to them.

+11 Armor and Weapons
Triumphus (sword), Ultima (red mage), Fabula (blue mage), Mystic (archer) and Acura (fist) Armor: Upgrade using Red Honors and usually to +4 is safe although occasionally breaks. +10 are the highest although these are (currently) extremely rare.
Triumphus (sword), Ultima (red mage), Fabula (blue mage), Mystic (archer) and Acura (fist) Weapon: Upgrade using Blue Tears and usually to +5 is safe although occasionally breaks. +10 are the highest although these are (currently) rare.

+12 Weapons (Eonic)
Level 12 weapons can be upgraded from any level 11 weapons so it's recommended that Blessing Level +1 is used. Also upon ugprade failure, level 11 weapon will be destroyed so it's even more recommended that Level +1 is used. You can only make weapons for your own class or sub-class.
Upgrade from level 11 to level 12 requires each of Borna, Janra, Shua, Jous, Red Honor and Blue Tears. In addition, upgrade of the grade of level 12 weapons will also require the same set of gems. There is an NPC in front of Nasa Altar that upgrades weapons.
